Isle of Wight self catering holiday cottage accommodation sleeps two (1 bedroom), situated in the beautiful, quiet, west wight, in the rural countryside of Brighstone village, on the edge, at bottom of the downs, in the area called  'Back of the Wight', with views of the sea just 30m down the road, furnished to a high standard with Free WiFi (own router - 40+mb), cleaned by us as our only holiday let property, we are close by to show you round and answer any queries, detached with own shaded drive and secluded garden with secure bike rack.  All the advantages of being within easy walking distance of the village centre and public house (0.4 miles, 8 mins walking), with restaurant, a local Newsagent / Coffee shop which does breakfasts (eat in or out) if you don't want to cook, a village food store with locally baked bread, freezer, local produce, off licence and Post Office with debit card cashing facility. Surgery with pharmacy and hair dressers, also No 12 bus service from bottom of our road.  A great place to holiday within direct walking distance of Brighstone beach or longer by car 1.3 miles. The surrounding close villages (3) also have pubs with restaurants as alternative choices to eat out. The holiday cottage is situated at the bottom of downs in a quiet area with great walks all around, over downs or through the forest, also close by are Compton and Brook beaches.  Voted best village for the ninth time and the island is one of the sunniest place in UK. Half of the island is classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (National Landscapes) which includes the whole area around Brighstone, also the coast is classified as Heritage Coast. The island has the highest density of footpaths in the UK, many local footpaths have fine views, at the top of the downs above us by the bronze age barrows you can see across the Solent (North), English Channel (South) and towards the Needles and to Blackgang and the round island cycle route is at the bottom of our road. Much of the downs, forest and beaches are owned by the National Trust.

Radiators have been more than enough to cope with the coldest winters modern insulation throughout (total of 4). There is no mains gas for 7 miles around Brighstone. Building is pre heated before arrival for a warm welcome during colder months.

Limitations & Conditions

    Conditions for Carriers Stable Self Catering Cottage bookings
    • We only ask people to look after our property not clean it, we do all the cleaning, it's your holiday after all. It's worth looking at our reviews to know more about us - Our reviews, Tripadvisor, Airbnb or Google (see home page for links).
    • Deposits are set at 25% at time of booking holiday.
    • Departure time on leaving day is 10.00, arrival time is 16.00 currently because of additional Covid cleaning. Minimum holiday length is 4 days. We try to finish cleaning early if possible nd will text customer time to come in.
    • We will require a home address of one staying adult as it is a legal requirement on us in UK and and a normal email address to send you information etc. We prefer also to have a mobile number as the ferry companies request one so they can inform you of any last minute schedule changes and we can tell you if you can come in early.
    • We do recommend taking the advice of UK governments tourism organisation, Visit Britain and take out Holiday Insurance to cover unforeseen eventualities.
    • No charging of E-Bike, e-scooters and other small electric vehicles such as e-unicycles, e-skateboards and hoverboard batteries inside Carriers Stable.
    • A cheque deposit or bank transfer is required initially to confirm booking. Final balance required six weeks prior to arrival.
    • We don't currently have a electric charging point for cars and we are sorry to say that there is possible over heating problems to domestic electric sockets so cannot allow use of the electric sockets in the property to charge electric cars.
    • All documentation is digitally provided (Emails, Text's, ferry tickets & web pages), sorry we do not post out paper documents these days if we can.
    • We can get discounted car ferry tickets (we do not profit from these sales), which are charged in full at time of booking ferry (we only have a cash accounts with Redfunnel ferry company, a discount code is available for Wightlink).
      On receiving the deposit, we will send you a receipt and local map to assist finding Carriers Stable in Brighstone, if you want a discounted car ferry travel then as we have a cash account with the ferry company you could combine ferry travel and deposit in one. The 'contract rate' from the ferry companies provide to us is much cheaper and better terms than their Economy rate. I would note that early booking is advisable at peak times of the year as not all car ferry tickets are made available to us as Wightlink and Redfunnel keep back some for themselves to sell at full price.
    • Shortly before arrival date we will send you a 4 digit number and instructions to open the key lock (by email) just in case we are not around when you arrive.
    • no smoking  - Carriers Stable Non Smoking Inside please.
    • No use of naked flames, such as candles etc in property or close to outside or outside heaters allowed (insurance restriction).
    • No barbecues or washing lines (a conditions when we got change of use permission to convert property to holiday cottage).
    • No pets as some guests and us have allergies.
    • No bikes in cottage, there is a very secure bike rack concreted in and there is a stainless steel chain and Union padlock and also a cover for two bikes.
    • Sorry no parties.
    • The property is not fully fenced off , so is not ideally suited to children and bedroom upstairs is open to the stairs.
    • The stable flooring is almost all varnished pine, if you could please not wear walking boots in the stable, we would appreciate it, there is a drying tray - thank you
    • We do not take any breakage deposit as yet but do expect any damages to be paid for before leaving property - thank you.
    • We don't currently have a electric charging point for cars and we are sorry to say that there is possible over heating problems to domestic electric sockets so cannot allow use of the electric sockets in the property to charge electric cars.
    • There must be at least one person in a group that is staying, over 18 years of age.
    • Electric circuits tested and electrics updated to latest edition (18) April 2021 (new consumer box etc).

    Accommodation Features

    • The stable conversion is all electric and insulated to modern building control standards. There are electric thermostatic radiators on both floors which has coped with the coldest weather.
    • Electric circuits tested and upgraded to latest edition (18) April 2021.
    • Electricity usb charges are included in the prices quoted.
    • Free broadband (own router 40+mb).
    • There are two mains sockets with inbuilt usb charger sockets (one upstairs and one downstairs).
    • Good selection of island books, Walking, Cycling, History and Maps etc and general.
    • All linen (bathroom towels, bed linen & tea towels) are included in price, except for beach towels which are not provided.
    • Soap is provided for hand basin, shower (shower gel) & kitchen sink (hand and washing up liquid) & washing machine detergent. Also plastic bags, cleaning materials etc provided.
    • Cooking tools and utensils, pots & pans of all sizes and types etc, you would normally find in most homes are all provided.
    • There are mains linked battery backup smoke detectors down stairs & upstairs and fire extinguishers on both floors.
    • There are detailed notes on fire safety and Access Statement laid out on the coffee table when you come in, if you could please read the fire safety notes.

    Outside

    • Outside secure steel bike rack out of sight of road with deep concrete plinth whilst chained to plinth  with a thick marine grade stainless steel chain and substantial Union padlock (very low risk area). See cyclist page for more information.
    • Patio with picnic table and chairs, umbrella and two bench seats (one on shaded lawn area), with lawns & shrubberies.
    • There is a large gravelled drive which means that there is room for more than one car and both can exit independently.

    Local Resources

    • One local Public Houses in centre of village with restaurant within easy walking distance.
    • One food shop/Post Office providing frozen food, fresh locally baked bread, green vegetables, meats and cheese, also general groceries, milk, butter, eggs, meat, medicines, confectionery, flowers and beers, wines and spirits etc, also ability to draw cash on most debit cards (free withdrawals), also late opening.
    • One newsagent/cafe that does takeaway and eat in breakfast and lunches that also sells magazines, papers and sweets. 
    • Local doctors surgery with pharmacy
    • Hairdressing salon
    • Village museum.
    • Brighstone's small local library with computer facilities WiFi available (limited opening hours).
    • Card shop.
    • Public bus service (No 12) that serves island towns and villages from bottom of our road, we have a bus timetable book in the Carriers Stable.
